Representatives’ terms are too long

Regimes (administrations) stay in power for too long, people’s minds & opinions change entirely in 4 years, in part due to experience with the policies of the elected party. Meaning that the ruling party loses support, which makes their reign undemocratic…

Consider the current (October 2016) Dutch cabinet of Mark Rutte, a coalition of #VVD and PvdA (“right-left” together). According to the polls, the opposition party #PVV (of Geert #Wilders) is now the largest party and the #PvdA (labour party) is almost negative in seat count in parliament, the VVD is well below the PVV also. I cannot imagine that that’s comfortable to this cabinet, knowing their decisions have so little support among the population. Perhaps they have decided that because now, the population does not support them anymore, they can simply ignore our wishes and do what they like. Given that #Rutte and #Samsom (resp. VVD & PvdA) are both ginormous anti-democrats, so such might actually be their reasoning.
Rutte keeps refusing to accacknowledge the outcome of the referendum on the association treaty with the Ukrayne, and Samson, well…:
Inone parliamentary session, Wilders complained about the refugee camps for Syrian refugees that local councils erected, against the desires of the local population; Sansom interrupted him by claiming that it was just as well that the councils ignored the desires of the population. For that supremely anti-democratic statement, he received enthousiastic applause of the entire parliament. Oh, if only I was there. I would have taken the microphone, and informed all self-proclaimed “representatives of the people” that they could leave theroon, and never come back, since they are against the interests of the population, and not representative of us. Does anyone wish to try to remain seafed? I’d be happy to drag you out by your ears.

So, referenda are the only way representative government might be democratic, or simply abolish the concept of government (representative or not) entirely: #anarchism. Power to the person, not the (millions of) people.

And what about the refugees? When the west and Russia choses to continue the bombardments, chasing them out of their homes and onto the European continent, let the politicians responsible for that open up their homes, and take them in house and feed them – at their own expense. If they wish to socialize the costs of their actions, syre: tput the refugees in military training camps: they have the motivation to try and fight for making their home safe for return. Teach them how to use guns, anti-aircraft missiles, and supply them with weapons and ammo, and send em back. And STOP BOMBING THEM!
I can’t help bbt bring Hitler up again; the NSDAP was elected in 1933, making the invasion of Poland (1939), thus all of WWW2, democratic?

Can democracy exist?

In countries with millions of inhabitants, true #democratic rule is impossible (democratic rule is impossible, period. Rule over people isn’t democratic, because it moves power from them into the hands of a government).
Let’s, for the sake of argument suspend our understanding of that, for a moment. Democratic rule would involve direct involvement of people in government, if not personally, then by way of referenda. Not alleged “representation”. In a country with millions of inhabitants, direct involvement of the entire population is practically impossible. And even according to a strict definition of democracy, representation is not deomcratic. It still leaves the power in the hands of the r”representers”, that will openly, unashamedly applaud apeals to respect to the desires of the population less.
Therefore the inonly proper form of democracy is self-rule for each and every citizen: #anarchism.
Even in ancient Athens, Democracy meant power OVER people, not TO them. Because only rich men were alllowed to vote, not women, and especialy not slaves.

Nationale identiteit

(& Merckel c.s.)

Where does wealth come from?

John Maynard #Keynes (pronounced k[eey]nes, not k[ay]nes, the clue lies in the second name, which is spelled m[ay]nard and pronounced the same, not pronounced M[ee]nerd) claimed that wealth came from consumer spending, whereas Ludwig von #Mises teaches that production is the source of wealth (hence stimulating consumer spending reduces busines investment and keeps the economy in a slump): it depletes the sum of loanable money in bankaccounts, so investments cannot be made so easily; less money available for business loans means higher interest rates – the price of loans) – supply & demand, a concept which I thought lay at the heart of #economics.

While I can see the merits of the argument from both sides, I do wonder if Mises’s arguments still holds in, say, the Dutch economy, with as good as no factories (other than for e.g. chocolate bars) because the Dutch economy stands almost completely on two pillars (all right, three):
– Transport (inc. international)
– Services (people working in offices, or repairing bicycles/shoes/etc.)
– Plus agriculture (food, flowers – exporting tulips all over the world)
– Foreign factories (this may be considered a fourth pillar, but I have my doubts about that, hence this post)
It is quite amazing that there is so much wealth in this little country here. So where does that come from? Under normal circumstances there is quite a decent amount of saving going on among Dutch bank account holders. Not for long anymore, though: what with the Euro & the ECB wrecking the economy the way they do, they might be depleting the saved capital available for business investment, and thus they will prolong/worsen the recession.

Negative interest amoynts to a penalty on saving money How the hell does the government dare penalise people for having more economic sense than them?!?

But where does the Dutch wealth come from? Investments in cookie factories which then have to get repaid by candy purchases by the people? (The entire economy can’t float on that, we’re not that obese asan entire nation). Dutch businesses still invest in factories – abroad, so there is no direct line from Dutch investment into the Dutch factory-worker’s pay check.
