Equality: (unintended?) consequences – an F1 analogy

Some F1-drivers make vast amounts of money, while some don’t. Some are succesful while some aren’t. Some have to pay to drive, because they aren’t at the level (yet) where they can demand money. some are salaried drivers, yet cost the teams vast amounts of money in repair bills (Latifi). If all the drivers would be paid the same, no team would be able to lure the most desirable drivers to them by offering a higher salary. Meaning they would have to find other ways to attract that driver: eg offering to pay 50% of their medical bills. They would bid against eachother (60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, 100%) until that drivers lost some incentive to not drive so recklessly anymore. Meaning that after a few races the entire field would be 6ft under (or cremated, or buried at sea, you name it)
